Community Guidelines

Hello Community Guidelines

Hello is built for real connection. This is a place where people can show up honestly, meet others with confidence, and feel respected while they do it.

These Community Guidelines explain the standard every member is expected to follow. They apply to profiles, photos, messages, the Hello Feed, comments, reports, and any other part of the Hello experience. They may also apply to conduct outside of Hello when it involves another Hello member or creates a safety concern for our community.

Hello is a community built on authenticity, safety, and shared humanity. Everyone is expected to be respectful and treat others with dignity.

1. Show up as yourself

Hello accounts are for real adults who are representing themselves honestly.

Members must be 18 or older to create an account or use Hello. We may ask for verification if we believe an account may not meet this requirement.

Each profile must belong to one individual person. Shared profiles, couple profiles, group profiles, fake profiles, and profiles created for someone else are not allowed.

If you are in an open relationship, ethically nonmonogamous, polyamorous, separated, divorced, or exploring a relationship structure that is not traditional, you may say so honestly where appropriate. Your profile still needs to represent you as an individual.

You may use your legal name, nickname, initials, middle name, shortened name, or the name you commonly use in everyday life. Your name should not pretend to be another person, celebrity, fictional character, brand, organization, or public figure.

Do not misrepresent your age, identity, gender, location, relationship status, intentions, appearance, photos, or other meaningful information about yourself. Catfishing, impersonation, deceptive profiles, and intentionally false information are not allowed.

2. Use authentic photos that make recognition easy

Hello requires multiple profile photos. Your required photos must be recent, authentic, and clear enough for other members to understand who they are meeting.

At least one required photo should clearly show your face and include only you.

Profile photos may not rely on filters, retouching, face swapping, digital alteration, AI generation, blur, unusual angles, hidden facial features, or anything else that gives members a misleading picture of who they are meeting.

Hello is intentionally strict about deceptive profile photos. Your photos should help people recognize you in real life.

3. Keep minors out of public content

Photos and public content should not feature minors or make children part of a member’s dating profile.

Do not post photos or videos where a minor is clearly identifiable, is the focus of the image, appears connected to you or your household, or appears in a private setting such as a home, backyard, family event, or similar context.

Incidental background appearances by minors in public places may be allowed if the minors are not the focus and are not clearly identifiable, such as a distant crowd at a park, beach, festival, or public event.

This policy is designed to protect minors, protect member privacy, and keep Hello focused on adult connection.

4. Use creative content honestly

Creative content can be part of how people express themselves, especially in the Hello Feed.

AI generated, digitally created, humorous, stylized, or entertainment focused content may be allowed in the Feed when it is not used to deceive others, does not pretend to be a real photo of you, and does not violate these Guidelines.

AI generated or materially altered images may not be used as required profile photos.

5. Respect compatibility without crossing into hate

Hello recognizes that attraction, compatibility, culture, religion, lifestyle, values, and personal preferences can play a role in dating and relationships.

At the same time, Hello does not tolerate racism, antisemitism, Islamophobia, xenophobia, or ideologies rooted in the belief that certain groups of people are inherently less worthy of dignity, safety, respect, or equal humanity.

Compatibility preferences may be expressed respectfully. Degrading, dehumanizing, hateful, or discriminatory behavior toward individuals or groups is not acceptable on Hello.

6. Treat identity and difference with dignity

Hello does not allow content or conduct that promotes, supports, excuses, or expresses hate, contempt, degradation, intimidation, or dehumanization based on protected characteristics.

This includes race, ethnicity, color, nationality, country of origin, immigration status, caste, religion, belief, sex, gender identity, gender expression, sexual orientation, disability, serious health condition, body type, age, or any other protected status.

Examples of prohibited content and behavior include slurs, hateful symbols, degrading stereotypes, racist language, antisemitic content, Islamophobic content, xenophobic content, calls for exclusion or violence, and claims that a group of people is inherently inferior, dangerous, disgusting, or less deserving of dignity.

7. Communicate respectfully

We do not allow harassment, bullying, intimidation, threats, insults, humiliation, blackmail, doxing, repeated unwanted contact, or behavior intended to shame, frighten, pressure, or control another person.

This includes unwanted comments about someone’s body, appearance, race, gender, sexuality, religion, disability, age, or personal choices. It also includes emotional abuse, manipulation, hostile messages after rejection, and attempts to punish someone for not responding or not being interested.

If someone says no, stops responding, unmatches, blocks you, or asks you to stop contacting them, respect that immediately.

8. Keep sexual content consensual and appropriate

Consent matters on Hello, in private conversations, and in real life.

We do not allow sexual harassment, unwanted sexual comments, unsolicited sexual images, cyberflashing, sexual threats, pressure for sexual activity, coercion, stalking, indecent exposure, sextortion, or any attempt to distribute, expose, or weaponize intimate images without consent.

Private sexual conversation is only acceptable when all adults involved are comfortable, consenting, and participating willingly.

Public profile content and public Feed content may not include nudity, explicit sexual content, sexually vulgar content, or content that makes the community feel unsafe or unwelcome.

9. Do not use Hello for sexual exploitation

Hello may not be used to buy, sell, solicit, advertise, arrange, or promote sexual services, escort services, adult content, pornography, or compensated sexual activity.

Do not use Hello to pressure, recruit, exploit, traffic, or manipulate anyone for sexual, romantic, financial, or personal gain.

10. Child safety is a priority

Hello has zero tolerance for child sexual exploitation, child abuse, or sexual content involving anyone under 18.

Do not use Hello to create, request, share, trade, describe, normalize, threaten, or encourage child sexual abuse material or sexual content involving a minor. This includes real, fictional, illustrated, animated, AI generated, or digitally altered content.

Hello may report suspected child sexual exploitation or abuse to law enforcement or appropriate child safety organizations when required or appropriate.

11. No violence, threats, or predatory conduct

Hello does not allow threats, stalking, assault, sexual assault, domestic abuse, exploitation, trafficking, or conduct that puts another person at risk.

We may remove accounts associated with violent behavior, sexual violence, predatory conduct, child exploitation, human trafficking, credible threats, or other behavior that we believe creates a safety concern for members.

We may also take action based on harmful conduct outside of Hello when it involves another Hello member or affects the safety of the community.

12. Do not use Hello for illegal activity

Do not use Hello to commit, plan, promote, encourage, or facilitate illegal activity.

This includes illegal drugs, controlled substances, counterfeit goods, stolen property, human trafficking, exploitation, fraud, threats, violence, and attempts to help others break the law.

Content that promotes illegal use, unsafe behavior, threats, intimidation, violence, or harm is not allowed.

13. Do not manipulate members for money or access

Hello does not tolerate scams, fraud, theft, phishing, financial manipulation, or attempts to exploit members.

Do not ask members for money, gifts, loans, investments, banking information, passwords, cryptocurrency, gift cards, payment app transfers, or financial assistance.

Do not fake romantic interest, friendship, emergency need, investment opportunity, employment opportunity, or identity to obtain money, goods, services, access, or personal information.

Romance scams, phishing, crypto scams, fake emergencies, impersonation, and financial manipulation are grounds for removal.

14. Keep conversations on Hello until it is natural and safe to move elsewhere

Hello is designed for real connection within the platform. Our messaging tools and Feed help members connect more safely and authentically.

Profiles may not be used primarily to direct members to outside messaging apps, social media accounts, or other platforms.

Repeated attempts to move conversations off platform in ways that undermine safety, authenticity, or the member experience may result in account action.

15. Do not use Hello as a promotional channel

Hello is for connection, not audience building, advertising, or sales.

Do not use Hello primarily to promote a business, brand, campaign, social media account, subscription platform, event, fundraiser, product, service, or external community.

Do not use Hello to gain followers, drive traffic, sell access, advertise services, or turn other members into customers or an audience.

16. Protect privacy, yours and theirs

Do not post or share private information about yourself or others in a way that creates a safety or privacy risk.

This includes home addresses, workplace details, phone numbers, email addresses, financial information, government identification, passwords, private messages, location details, or screenshots of another member’s profile or conversation without consent.

You may talk with trusted friends or family about your dating life and safety concerns, but you may not publicly expose, shame, threaten, or identify another Hello member.

17. Share only content you have the right to use

Only post content you have the right to share.

Do not upload someone else’s photos, private messages, copyrighted work, trademarked material, or content created by another person without permission. Do not present another person’s content as your own.

If other adults appear in your photos or videos, you should have their consent to share that content on Hello. Minors may not appear in photos or public content at all.

18. No spam, manipulation, or abuse of the platform

Do not misuse Hello or interfere with the experience of other members.

We do not allow spam, mass messaging, misleading links, malicious links, bots, scripts, scraping, automated access, fake engagement, false reports, multiple accounts, ban evasion, or attempts to manipulate matching, visibility, messaging, reporting, verification, or any other Hello feature.

Do not use unauthorized tools, third party services, VPNs, device changes, or other methods to avoid a restriction, suspension, or ban.

19. Avoid content that can cause harm

Hello does not allow false or misleading content that could create real world harm, threaten public safety, or interfere with civic, health, financial, or personal safety.

This includes dangerous scams, harmful conspiracy claims, false public safety information, intentionally misleading emergency information, and content that encourages people to ignore credible safety guidance in a way that could cause serious harm.

20. Do not promote self harm or dangerous behavior

Members may share personal experiences with mental health, recovery, grief, substance use, eating disorders, or difficult life experiences in a respectful and safe way.

We do not allow content that encourages, instructs, glorifies, depicts, or assists suicide, self harm, eating disorders, dangerous challenges, or other behavior that could seriously harm a person.

If a member appears to be in immediate danger, we may take steps intended to protect safety, which may include contacting emergency services when appropriate and permitted.

21. Keep graphic or shocking content off Hello

Hello does not allow graphic, gory, cruel, or shocking content.

This includes realistic blood, severe injury, death, animal cruelty, torture, threats of violence, or content intended to disturb, intimidate, or celebrate harm.

Lawful hunting, fishing, sport, or outdoor content may be allowed when it is not graphic, cruel, threatening, or intended to shock other members.

22. Report responsibly

Reports help protect the Hello community. If someone makes you feel unsafe, violates these Guidelines, misrepresents themselves, harasses you, scams you, or behaves in a way that concerns you, please report it.

Reports should not be used to punish, mislead, retaliate against, or target another member unfairly.

Disagreement, lack of attraction, different beliefs, or simply deciding someone is not your match does not make that person reportable. If you are not interested, you can pass, unmatch, block, or move on.

How Hello handles safety and enforcement

If we believe a member has violated these Community Guidelines, our Terms, our policies, or the safety and integrity of the Hello community, we may take action. Depending on the situation, that may include removing content, asking a member to edit a profile, issuing a warning, limiting features, requiring verification, suspending an account, removing an account, banning a member, or taking other steps we believe are appropriate.

Serious violations may result in immediate removal. Repeated violations may also result in removal, even if each individual violation appears less serious on its own.

Safety does not stop at the edge of the app. If we become aware of harmful, threatening, predatory, violent, exploitative, or otherwise unsafe conduct involving a Hello member, we may take action even if the conduct occurred outside of Hello, including through text messages, social media, another platform, a phone call, an in person meeting, or a past incident that creates a safety concern.

When necessary, and when permitted or appropriate under the law, we may work with law enforcement, safety organizations, or other authorities.

Moderation decisions can be imperfect. If you believe we made a mistake, you may contact Hello support at support@hellodatingapp.com and ask us to review the decision. We may not be able to share every detail about a report, investigation, or safety decision, especially when another member’s privacy or safety is involved.
